Social responsibility has a long tradition at Ashford. As a company we have always focused on innovation, long-term creation of value, awareness of responsibility and respect for our employees, patients, customers, investors and the environment. Keeping in mind the directive primum non nocere, first do no harm, Ashford continues to advance healthcare in a positive and responsible manner.We follow the rationale that we are linked closely to the communities in which we operate- locally, nationally or globally. We cannot exist in isolation. All our actions are focused around this feeling of being centered. It our motto, “To lend a helping hand to the less fortunate in our society through the support of women, children and the aged in the areas of health and education.” Implementing this philosophy in spirit, we make a positive contribution to the communities in which we operate, and invest in health and education programs and partnerships that aim to bring sustainable improvements to underserved people.

Director’s Message:
The need for long-term sustainable solutions underpins our strategy at Ashford. We believe that development is sustainable if it “meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”. This “ability of future generations” hinges around the development of long-term measures and is therefore reliant upon activities that do not deliver only immediate care, but actually provide real and sustainable solutions – a concept put simply by a colleague of mine, “Don't just give them the fish; teach them how to fish.”
There are ethical and moral considerations at every step of the way in drug development and the supply of pharmaceuticals, particularly for the half of the global population that live on less than $2 a day. In such extreme poverty, any healthcare as we know it is clearly unaffordable for the patient.
We're working with governments and competent, dedicated, locally-based partners who are willing to do their part to make a difference. We believe this is the only way of developing sustainable solutions for today's many unmet or inadequately met healthcare needs and extending the benefits to the world's poorest populations in greatest need.
ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH AND SAFETY (EHS)
It is Ashford's policy to operate its business in a safe and responsible manner which minimizes its impact on the environment. We have identified Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) as one of the priority areas for fulfilling this responsibility. EHS is an integral component of our "Operational Excellence Programme" (OEP). Our EHS initiative is based on the philosophy of "Kaizen- Continuous Improvement". It comprises a comprehensive, formal and documented EHS program consisting of 16 well defined modules. Each module is assigned to a "steward" to ensure focused attention. Thus we make sure that EHS is organically incorporated into the job profile of each and every member.
Ashford closely monitors its environmental, health & safety performance. Key Performance Indicators include proactive measures such as Near Miss / Hazard Observation Rate. Employees are encouraged to report hazards in their workplace. Our aim is to identify and investigate as many hazards as possible so that action can be taken to prevent incidents.
